Student Holiday Stories

A note from the instructor:This is a beginning literacy class. In this class students range from non-literate to semi-literate students. To set up this exercise, we discussed holidays in their countries and in the USA. We then went on to discuss holiday activities and did various activities to work with the new vocabulary. The final activity was to complete a form which stated... My favorite holiday is.... I like this holiday because.... The students chose their favorite holiday and used the vocabulary for holiday activities to state why they liked that activity. Thre was just minor corrections on some of the papers, but the majority of what you see is student work.
Mei Qing:
My favorite holiday is Chinese New Year day. I like this holiday because my mother and father give me money and I wear new clothes and eat a lot of food too.
Xiu Jin:
My favorite holiday is Chinese New Year. I like this holiday because I go to the park, I watch fireworks, I have a family reunion, I go to church, I give presents, I play games, I sing songs.
Chi Yeng:
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I like this holiday because I like have a family reunion, I like to eat a lot of food, I go to the park.
Sung Sim:
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I like this holiday because I have a family reunion then give presents. I go to church. I go to the park. I like to give money. I have a picnic.
