The school
structure and system is very different compared to the ones where I was
schooled in the United States. Yet, I enjoy teaching small children, hence
I prefer students are not in high school or teaching adult literacy. However,
I am flexible and I willing to try new experience as well. |

| Frankfort, Ky USA | Adult Education | Hello! I am Barry Burkett. I am an instructor in Frankfort, Kentucky. I am currently working with a class of six single mothers, from the ages of 16-25. We are currently reading Life is so Good, by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0141001682/ref=sr_11_1/102-8462466-9986530?ie=UTF8). The students were floored by the first seven pages, and will be reading to page 17 for Wednesday. I am teamed up with Jennifer Lynch and her ESOL class, from New York. We were wondering if there might be a class overseas who would like to team up with us. A ring'o'three maybe? The general idea is for the classes to discuss the previously mentioned book and other media. My class will rotate bodies once every six weeks, some students will remain in the class others will progress into a different one. Jennifer runs a fluid program which continually shifts. If there are any takers, let us know! |

| Johanna Salfrank | Washington, DC | Adult Education | My class
is meeting in downtown Washington DC and it is a book club beginning on
September 13th. We will be reading Sour Land the sequel to Sounder by William H. Armstrong. The Club is made up of adult learnersstudying for their GEDs. I would like to partner with another adult learner group who is reading Sounder or who has read Sounder. If there is no group that fits this criteria at this time, I would appreciate if I could be linked to a similar adult book club in order to possibly set up a reading project in the future. |

EFL |
My students
are from Japan, Korea and Taiwan. They primarily high school age, although
I will be teaching both basic and intermediate level classes in reading
and in writing. I am very interested in having my students do a weekly
e mail exchange to promote their interest in studying ESL. In addition,
exchanging reviews of DVDs they have watched would be a great activity
for them. Whenever possible, real paper snail mail exchanges will be pretty
cool for them and make the experience of having a penpal more "real"
. I am also teaching an ESL version of US History and Science.... if anyone
else finds themselves teaching these courses also, perhaps something can
be done there as well. So I am looking to find e mail/snail mail penpals for 4 classes minimum this year. They do not all need to come from the same school. 4 classes in totally different areas of the world will be fine. :) Is anyone interested?? |

I teach
both English & CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) at AMES (Adult Multicultural Education Services). Currently I am teaching an intermediate ESL class of 22 young 19 to 35 adult learners who are new arrivals to Australia. The focus of the program is further study (preparation for entry into tertiary institutions viz colleges & universities). CALL is integrated into the course. My students are all computer literate and have got email accounts. They are interested in discussing various topics, exchanging views via images, sound & text. They are particularly interested in having partners in an English speaking country ie England or the US. |

| Katrina Hinson | Kinston, North Carolina, USA. | Adult Education | I teach
in a lab setting and I have "Basic Skills" students who are
working either on their Adult High School Diploma or on their GED. My
students range in age from 17-60,single parents, retired persons, dislocated
workers etc. I have a unique mix. I have a few students who are also Advanced
ESL students who are working on improving their writing and speaking in
addition to attaining their GED. My Adult High School students are taking
classes on everything from Earth Science to British Literature. I am interested
in the virtual class project because I think it's a great way to bring
the world into my classroom and to take my students out into the world.
I participated in this project last year and I've learned a lot from that
adventure. I am looking to be able to exchange emails with a class to
help my students work on their communication skills. I would like to be
able to discuss every day topics that our students face - to help them
realize they are not alone. I would also like to be able to discuss books
and or movies that we've read/watched in class. Last year was my first
year participating and we had our ups and downs. I've learned a lot about
howt o make this work best I think ( I hope). I'd like to see the students
really dialogue back and forth as well as myself and the other instructor.
I'd like to learn about another culture even if it's internal to the US
- although, having a pen pal from another country would be very nice too.
Some of my students will never be able to travel outside the US....and
a virtual class exchange might
be their onlyinvitation/exposure to other cultures/peoples outside their
own neighborhoods. |

| Kay Peralta | Georgetown, Kentucky, USA | Adult Education | I will
be teaching a low-level reading class in adult education this year. I
have taught in an ESL classroom setting and a GED classroom setting. I
have several years of working in adult education with low socio-economic
individuals. I would like to communicate with teachers/students/classrooms
such as ours. We are located in Georgetown, Kentucky. The town is a small residential area outside of Lexington, Kentucky. We are most noted for our Toyota Manufacturing plant. However, the town, itself, has stayed small and our growth population is small. Our adult education classrooms are very small from 5-10 at the most. Please let me know if I can be of help with other individuals across the world. |

I have
32 students, and would love to participate in a project of some sort with
kids of roughly the same age (10-12) in Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran, China, Mexico, Argentina or, frankly, just about anywhere. Those areas are ones we spend a certain amount of time studying, though. I can see this being an exchange of writing, art, photos, letters, or anything else. My school has just begun (August 22nd) and will end in early June 2007. |

the evening. Our classes will start next week (on Mon., Aug. 28th), but
lab sessions won't begin immediately. Please let me know if you are interested

. We have 16 classes that run, with levels that range from A.B.E., Pre-G.E.D. to G.E.D. level. I would love to set up an exchange for four or more of our classes (at least one from each level). We have one young class (ages 16-21), but our other classes range in ages from 25-65 years old. We serve Baltimore's urban population. I have no preference as to region/country in the world we prefer an exchange with - what is available? I lived in South Africa for a few years, and am very invested in the benefits of and necessity for global awareness and cultural exchange. |

This
quarter I will be teaching a Tuesday evening class , starting September 12, through the end of November. This is a new class for level 3 and above in writing students who want to make the bridge to college. Writing is perhaps the most difficult skill for all of my students. Up until this point, I have taught a multi level class three nights a week. I am looking for something to give them an opportunity to write. I am new to online classes and to photoblogs. However, my short experience has convinced me this gives students a reason to write and I would like to give it a try. My students: I have adult students. In the past their ages have ranged from 16 to 76. I suspect most that enroll for this class will be in their late 20 and 30’s. The majority are Hispanic, but not all come from Mexico. The rest of the students are primarily Asian, with a small percent South Pacific Islanders. Yes, I would like to have the ability to upload pictures of Sequim and my students, giving them the opportunity to write about our town and themselves. This is my first year and I am sure I will make some mistakes, but if I can make this fly, I would love to them implement it with the GED class I will be job sharing in November and December. |

practice their language. We may have other classes participate, in which
case, I will send another e-mail with the information on that class. |

| Simcoe, Ontario, Canada | Elementary School | I teach
in a small community near the shores of Lake Erie. This year the class is grade 4 and 5 students and we are very interested in finding out about other communities. We have very diverse interests in our class, and we would like to develop some sort of online space with other classes. This could include some writings, drawings, or even some share work, where students at each site contribute to a common piece of work. This area of Canada is very much dominated by the Great Lakes. They moderate the extreme temperatures that could happen, and bring a lot more precipitation and humidity than we would have otherwise. This makes for interesting weather and generally a fun place to live. We hope you would like to work with us on a great cross-cultural collaboration. |
