Purposes
- disseminate information (especially the bulletin)

- provide opportunities for practitioners, (teachers, administrators)and learners to connect to one another

- greater independence in finding and utilizing resources (lessneed for assistance on that level - more time to discuss, practice, analyze)

Challenges
- how to assist newcomers in navigating without overloadingthe site with directions, instructions
- filtering information in constructive ways
- list servs/discussion strands - how to provide room for discussionswithout overload/annoyance - balancing democracy on the net
- increasing access to the technology and its utilization
underlying assumptions:
-- literacy and language are socially constructed, informationabout ESOL, ABE, therefore should also be contextualized (include contentbeyond education, per se)
-- literacy and community development are integrally connected;the site therefore should reflect the larger contexts in which learningand teaching occur
-- the site is dynamic/constantly changing to reflectinterests, points of view and incoming/changing information
